Efficient Multi-Objective CFD-Based Optimization Method for a Scroll Distributor

An efficient approach to the geometry optimization problem of a non-axisymmetric flow channel is discussed. The method combines geometrical transformation with computational fluid dynamics solver, multi-objective genetic algorithm, and response surface. This approach, through modifications simplifications allows transforming into axisymmetric one in some specific devices i.e., scroll distributor or volute. It results significant decrease size, as only quasi-2D section solved. A significantly broader design space covered much shorter time than standard method, large problems feasible desktop-class computers. One point obtained approximately eight times faster full computations. was applied distributor. For case under analysis, it possible increase uniformity, eradicate separation zones, overall efficiency, which followed by energy savings 16% for scroll. indicate that this can be successfully similar problems.
